Awka Capital Territory (ACT) is a geographical location of 10km radius with Amawbia as its epicenter.

The ACT comprises of Twenty-Three (23) towns within six (6) Local Governments Areas in part and in whole.

ACTDA therefore covers the towns within the Awka Capital Territory (ACT) as follows:

1 Anaocha Adazi-Nnukwu, Agulu and Nri.
2 Awka North Amansea, Mgbakwu, Isuaniocha and Urum.
3 Awka South Awka, Amawbia, Mbaukwu, Isiagu, Nibo, Nise, Okpuno and Umuawulu.
4 Dunukofia Nawgu and Ukpo
5 Njikoka Abagana, Enugwu-Agidi, Enugwu-Ukwu, NImo and Nawfia.

ACTDA is an Authority charged b with accelerating building infrastructure and ensuring that building within Awka and the 24 towns that fall under the purview/jurisdiction of the Authority conforms to building standard in order to rid the State of collapsing buildings and building in disarray.

ASHDC (Anambra State Housing Development Corporation) is an Agency set up by the State government to make provision for affordable housing, decent homes and manager estates for Ndi Anambra.

Anyone or any developer that has a land he/she intends to develop/renovate can apply for building approval.

You can apply for a building approval at ACTDA offices:

  • The Head office at Block A Millennium Plaza opposite ABS along Enugu-Onitsha expressway Aroma, Awka and;
  • ACTDA Annex Office at Amawbia behind Police Headquarters Amawbia.

On May 15, 2014, The Executive Governor of Anambra State, Chief (Dr.) Willie M. Obiano, inaugurated the board of the Awka Capital Territory Development Authority charging it with the mandate to “transform Awka like Dubai did from 1990 to 2013.”

ACTDA is created to oversee the development revolution of Awka Capital Territory which runs on the following existing mandates:

  • Accelerating infrastructural development of Awka Capital Territory,
  • Implementing the prepared Master Plan of Awka Capital Territory,
  • Providing infrastructural services in accordance with the Master Plan,
  • Coordinating all building development activities of the private sector, parastatals and Government Agencies within Awka capital Territory.
  • Enforcing compliance to appropriate standards within Awka Capital territory in collaboration with other relevant Authorities and Agencies
  • Exercise such other powers as are expedient for effective implementation of its functions under the Law.

Yes, ACTDA is charged with building regularization aimed at achieving the status befitting for standard houses/structures as seen in other developed State Capitals. The Authority monitors the building developments from start to finish to ensure that the structures conform to standard.

What are the requirements to obtain a building approval?2023-02-08T12:27:11+00:00
  1. Four (4) sets of stamped and sealed Architectural and structural drawings that will house (site plan, floor plan, elevations, roof plan and sanitary details);
  2. A copy of survey plan;
  3. Proof of Land ownership/title document/clearance letter;
  4. ANSSID Number-Anambra State Social identification Number;
  5. Letter of undertaken, Calculation sheet and Coren Certification from a certified engineer.
